Located in the center of Italy, with Florence as its capital, Tuscany, along with Piedmont, is arguably Italy's most famous wine-growing region. The Etruscans of 3000 years have cultivated wine in this beautiful region. Viticulture is practiced on 58000ha and Tuscany is one of the first regions in Italy that has set high quality standards. The hilly landscape with the not overly hot climate is certainly one of the arguments in favor of good wine. The most important and famous red wines are Brunello, Chianti and the Supertuscans, mainly from the Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc grapes. The most famous white wine is probably the Vernaccia the San Gimignano.
